The documentary film Gleis 11 by the young director Çağdaş Eren Yüksel is a portrait of this first generation of immigrants. Pioneers of the first hour is what Yüksel, who belongs to the third generation of Turkish immigrants, respectfully calls them. His film gives a voice to the grandparents' generation, which has had little to say in the German public sphere. In the form of a parallel montage, seven protagonists tell of their dreams and hopes, of life in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1960s and 1970s up to the present.
A cocktailfilms production commissioned by the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia with the support of phoenix, ARD Mediathek, ZDF Mediathek and the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
